Today, I did a limited ride of 15.5 miles, in one hour even. While riding, I watched a movie suggested to me by a former student for its abundance of choral music, which, i was told, brought me to mind. This was The Green Knight, a movie whose release was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2021. However, curiously, I found the first half of the film to be very light in such music—only two brief passages of choral music. There were, however, other bits of music that suggested (both instrumentally and texturally) its medieval time period.
The movie, described in WIkipedia as an "epic medieval fantasy film," purports to be a contemporary representation of one of the oldest existing works of English literature: Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, written anonymously sometime in the fourteenth century. Called also a "bold and fresh take" on the work, and also described by one reviewer as "a self-consciously revisionist take on Camelot lore," the movie is said to reward multiple viewings. After I have finished this inaugural one, I will certainly return to it.
